Educational Gibi: understanding hypertension

Abstract

A First experimental measure of blood pressure was made in 1711 and since then many advances in medicine have led to new information about that disease. Arterial hypertension, commonly known as ‘high pressure’, is the maintenance of systemic blood pressure above those considered normal (120/80 mmHg), is a chronic, multifactorial disease and is considered to be one of the most common cardiovascular risk factors. Because it is influenced by various environmental and behavioural aspects, health education is essential to prevent and treat this disease. In order to facilitate the learning process, the aim of this work was to produce educational material on hypertension, idealised in the format of ‘gibi’, with basic information on physiological processes on blood pressure and care to avoid hypertension, in an innovative and informative way.
