Educational and Awareness-Raising Work Among Armenian Communities in the Cultural Area of Ukraine (Contemporary Stage)

Abstract

The aim of the article is to highlight the educational and awareness-raising work among Armenian national and cultural communities of Ukraine in the period of independence. Research Methodology. The survey is based on the field research and interviewing. Analytical scientific methodology was used to comprehend the raw information that has been gathered. Principal unique and regular features inherent to Sunday schools of Armenian diaspora were uncovered by comparing a number of similar phenomena. Results. Sunday schools are one of the most crucial elements of Armenian cultural life in the modern world. They play a major role in the processes of educational and awareness-raising work. It has been found that there is at least one Sunday school in every city with a considerably numerous Armenian diaspora. The methodology of teachers working in those schools provides not only the techniques for teaching the Armenian language, but also includes programs of the history of Armenia and Armenian Church. It has been concluded that apart from Sunday schools, dancing groups and ensembles are one more typical activity in the educational sector. Considering this fact, a description of the most famous Armenian dancing ensembles of Ukraine is included, as well as a characterization of unique features of modern dancing culture of the diaspora. Novelty. First, the study suggests a subject field concerning Sunday Armenian schools in different regions of Ukraine. Secondly, the issue of Armenian national ensemble as a consolidating, ethnic and culturally educational life activity of Armenian communities in modern Ukraine has been explored. The practical significance. The results of the study are an important addition to researching modern cultural activities of national minorities in Ukraine. It is possible to conduct not only educational research, but also other types of activities of national and cultural societies. Thus, this study lays a foundation for characterizing publishing, memorial, educational and cultural activities of Armenian diaspora in Ukraine.
