Abstract
The text presents the context of training and the current situation in which the Community of Ribanceira areais (Imbituba, SC) struggles to fight for its historical continuity and its continued presence in the traditional territory. Ideas of territorialisation of the field of geography as well as concepts related to traditional peoples and communities were considered as a theoretical reference. From a methodological point of view, the work is the result of a non-systematic and exploratory observation of the grouping and the use of documentary resources and literature review. It is concluded that, in the context of the industrialisation of southern Santa Catarina, the difficulties in ensuring the continued reproduction of traditional knowledge point to the need to rescue and maintain the territory and to coexist in the wider context of the restructuring of the port area.
