Influence of the combination of GPS and GLONASS data on geo-referencing of rural buildings

Abstract

The agricultural issue is still a highly debated issue in Brazil, mainly as regards land tenure. Law No 10.267/01 was a major step forward on the agricultural issue. From then on, all rural buildings must be georeferenced to the Brazilian Geodetic System (SGB). For this purpose, satellite and conventional positioning methods are used. Changes are taking place in satellite positioning systems due to the increase of new signals in GPS (Global Positionig System) and the restructuring of GLONASS (Global Orbiting Navigation Satellite System) in addition to the new Galileo and Compass systems. To assess the effects of the GPS and GLONASS data combination, data processing has been performed with different configurations. The processing operations were carried out in order to determine the coordinates of the basic and adjacent support points of rural buildings. Finally, it was found that the use of precise efemerides in the transport of support points does not have any significant influence, since transport with transmitted efemerials also meets the requirement of precision in the Technical Standard for the Geo-referencing of Rural Buildings (NTGIR). When GPS and GLONASS data were used, the best solutions were obtained. In the case of adjacent points, the use of GPS and GLONASS data is also recommended as it meets the precision requirement of the NTGIR and provides better results than separately processed data.
