Festive and aesthetic message broken: the harsh pedagogy of the Barroca celebration

Abstract

The Barroca religious festival, together with larger demonstrations and extensive symbolic content, included other aspects of increased fighting burden and militant ideology. Its most common expression was emblems (more epiogram paint) with a popular poetry casing and even, in imitation of the theatre, villancicos sliced in the lytty solemnities with villana aesthetic and elementary messages of anti-Semitic or anti-morisca violence. A jugoous example of such proposals can be found in this 1664 festival of organisation and inquisitorial design, which analyses the most flagrant populist pedagogy. The religious festivals, all together with assertions of higher importance and symbolic responses, including other aspects provided with a fighting intent and militant ideology. ITS most frequently express was the embiem (painting plus epigram), wrapped with popular poetry and even, imitating drama, with Rustic carols Sung in liturgical solemnities and containing plain messages of antisemitimite or antimoorish violence. A substantial example can be found in this article, wich deals with a festival organised by the concern in 1664 and its flagrant pedagogy for common people.
