“Soon the Church forced us to be sociologists.” Political socialisation and stronism. Sociology students, Catholic University of Asunción (1971-1976)

Abstract

In recent years has emerged and important set of studies tending to explore the authoritarian processes in the period 1960-1970 in the Southern Cone. In that wide map of researches and prospects we seek to address a further dimension, certainly unknown about Paraguay: spaces and forms of political socialization during the Stroessner regime. In order to do so, we will analyze the troublesome 1970s, from the legitimacy adopted by social sciences in an area of high level of politicization as it was the Catholic University “Nuestra Señora de la Asunción” The paper is in line with the perspective of historical sociology. Adopts for the study documents of the career of Sociology, declassified archives selected from the Policy Directorate and Related of the Research Department of stronist police and, primarily, interviews conducted with the main actors of the period, that is, to the students of sociology
