Abstract
There are different forms of university management which are determined by the interaction between the context and the actors. This study started with a two-step sample selection process; firstly, by means of qualified reporting persons and secondly, on the basis of diversity criteria in terms of the area of knowledge, the level at which the interviewee’s management activity took place, career in positions and gender. 19 semi-structured interviews were conducted with 2 Rectors, 4 Deputy Rectors, 1 Head of the Inspection Service, 2 Deans, 1 Vice-Dean, 1 Secretary of Faculty, 4 Department Directors, 2 Research Group Directors and 2 Master Directors. The instrument used consists of five dimensions related to access to university management, management training, concerns in the exercise of office, institutional impact and difficulties, and learning from the management exercise. The data obtained were analysed through thematic encoding and software support for qualitative data MaxQDA.10., to then proceed to the validation process. With regard to the conclusions, it should be pointed out that access to university management is justified by numerous factors, both professional and personal, and that initial training is necessary. It is found that the sense of belonging to the institution is one of the keys to the success of the manager and there is a lack of protocols to be followed at the university depending on the post to be performed to assist decision-making.
