Abstract
O Statute of the Disabled Person (Law 13.146/15) changed the disability regime in an unprecedented way so that the full civilian capacity of persons with disabilities is now in place. It is proposed to look at the changes promoted by the Statute to the civil capacity model of the Brazilian legal system, assessing the promotion of autonomy in the face of a lack of judgement on the part of the subject. Attention is also being paid to the current models of legal protection for people with disabilities: curatela and supported decision-making, as well as critically assessing some of the choices made by the legislator when the law is published.
