Digital Competence Teacher at Higher Teacher Training Institutes: Case of Dominican Republic

Abstract

In this work, we intend to analyse the ICT skills of university teaching teachers at the Salomé Ureña Higher Training Institute (Rep. Dom.), taking into account the input of various first-line researchers. This is a non-experimental-descriptive case study, following the counterfactual method using varied statistical techniques. The data were obtained by applying a questionnaire on the basis of a representative sample. The results highlight that teachers are attributed a sufficient or good level of ICT training, particularly in the technical handling of technological tools and access to the Internet; this level declines as ICT content becomes more complex. Most teachers do not have a research profile, which is linked, inter alia, to the fact that they do not possess a doctoral degree.
