Date, author and place of the Eclesiastes Book

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to make a proposal on which date the Biblic Book of the Eclesiastes (hereinafter ‘Hebraica’) was written, the author of the book and the place where it was written. Subjects that have always been involved in intense discussions in the academic world related to bibyl research. In each of the items we propose to address, and the respective questions we wish to answer, we will start by critically reviewing the proposals that have been made by the main researchers of these topics, at different times and places. To build on these, we will make a proposal on the three topics that we deal with in this article: the date, author and location of the Eclesiastes book. Our conclusion is that Qohélet’s book was written around the year 250 BC, the author of which could not have been from Salomon, but from someone who lived in the north of the Palestinian, at the linguistic border with Aramaico.
