Abstract
The need to strengthen, in higher education institutions (HEIs), an intercultural communication process that includes, on the basis of equity, knowledge and communication practices of students from universities whose origin is indigenous or not. This need is raised as a means of enabling intercultural communication and, with this, harmonious coexistence between the different cultures, strengthening Ecuadorian national identity in a multicultural and multicultural context. Dealing objectively with the interculturality communication process during the university student’s training process requires a prior reflection on certain ‘key words’, without whose understanding it does not seem possible to deal rigorously with the issue of concern to us.
