Abstract

This work brings together the academic and professional genres of the legal field as evidenced by a population of teachers and graduates of the law programme of the University of Envigado Institution. The article is the product of qualitative, interpretative and comprehensive research, based on the analysis of the results of the application of semi-structured surveys containing closed and open questions. The results showed that for teachers the most widely used genders in teaching are legal texts, case-law, demands, codes and tutorials, while for peers the texts that use most in their professional practice are regulations, case law and laws. This leads to the conclusion that there is a high degree of overlap between the legal genres used in training and those of professional practice, together with the fact that they are discursive genres which, in professional practice, form part of the technolect and are known, applied and capable of being critically exercised in professional practice.
