Socio-environmental analysis of the use and occupation of the Ecological Park Professor Renato Braga, Maranguape – EC

Abstract

The aim of this article is to address aspects of the implementation of urban parks that contribute to the improvement of the microclimate, the preservation of plant and animal species, the development of buildings, the improvement of the urban landscape, as well as the conservation of the environment and the quality of life of the population. The case of the Ecological Park Professor Renato Braga is analysed to present how it has been used in recent years. The aim of the creation of such an urban park was to provide the population with a privileged place of living and recreation, as well as to protect local fauna and flora; however, the park suffers from a number of social and environmental problems, which jeopardise its ecological balance. A systemic analysis methodology integrated in the field of study has been used. The purpose of this work is to analyse the ways in which the park in question is used and occupied, taking into account the main socio-environmental damage caused by the activities carried out on the site, while also highlighting the problems of managing that area. The research is based on the importance of the area for urban sustainability in the municipality of Maranguape, and there is a strong need for diagnosis of the extent of the current problem, with the aim of developing future proposals as a measure to mitigate impacts. In the first part of the text, some aspects are presented on the Green Park Prof. Renato Braga, the purpose and justification of the work; the second; there is a theoretical benchmark on the importance of conservation units and sustainability; in the third, methodology showing the field of study and environmental diagnosis is addressed; the fourth phase deals with the results and discussion; and, finally, the fifth part draws the conclusions of that study.
