Abstract
The article deals with the experimental research of students’ aspirations at different stages of studying a foreign language in the University. The article presents a brief analysis of papers devoted to the influence of motivation and aspirations on the mastering a foreign language. The experimental data allow revealing the specificity of students’ aspirations at different terms in the process of studying a foreign language. Purpose of the research is to study features of students’ aspirations at different stages of studying a foreign language in the University. Methodology of the study is the theoretical analysis of psychological research, empirical research methods, quantitative and qualitative analysis of the empirical data. Results. The experimental data show that the majority of students have medium and low levels of aspirations when studying a foreign language in the University. These levels negatively affect the process of foreign language acquisition and students’ results. Practical applications. The research materials can be applied in higher education system in the courses: “Developmental psychology”, “Pedagogical psychology”, “Psychology of higher education”, and used in training and professional development of faculty members.
