APPLYING HYDRO ENERGY IN A CLASSROOM BY LOOKING FOR THE ECONOMY IN THE FORM OF CONSUMPTION

Abstract

After the industrial revolution, with the rural exodus, there has been a great increase in urban population, leading to an increase in electricity consumption and consequently necessitating a greater demand for energy production. In the middle of this development, the construction of more power generating sources has become essential, causing various environmental impacts. At present, the creation of conservation programmes looking for methods to reduce energy consumption aims to adopt new lifestyles and consumption patterns, which are a major challenge for all. According to PUCRS (2010, p. 05.) a programme for the conservation and rational use of energy consists of a series of technical, managerial and behavioural actions and measures aimed at reducing energy consumption and seeking sustainability. This project will cite some ways of reducing electricity consumption in a classroom at the Osvaldo Crus school, which is energy from hyreltrical usina. “[...] The largest and most powerful hydropower usina in the world is Usina Itaipu, located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay, it is able to produce 90000 giga watts per year, enough to feed the city of London for 3 years.” (ENGENHARIA giants, 2009). Awareness of the entire academiic body of the Osvaldo Cruz college is of fundamental importance for the realisation of this project, from a simple gesture such as switching off lights when the environment is not in use, to close the entire environment by connecting the air conditioner, among others, and this will bring improvements and benefits for all as it reduces energy consumption, indirectly reducing the levels of environmental impacts.
