Abstract
The development of the Internet over the last two decades has led to a new discipline that makes it possible to study the Web quantitatively: webmetry. The application of webmetric techniques to the study of companies points to the possible existence of links between the number of links received by a corporate website and certain economic and financial variables. The emerging evidence found is in any case limited to companies belonging to technological sectors which, by their very nature, have a strong presence on the Network. This exploratory work extends the analysis to various economic sectors in the United States, confirming that there is a significant relationship between the variables set out above. This opens up new possibilities for business research to based on the use of information extracted from the web link structure.
