Abstract
In this work, we would like to look at some speeches about the teacher on Twitter, specifically asking how this profession is represented by the prism of unidealised practical situations. On the basis of a report broadcast in the mid on the aggression against a teacher in Porto Alegre, we have selected ninety and a tweets for research, looking for theoretical support in the Critical Speech Analysis (Fairclough, 2003). In this micro-analysis, we focus on the representational meaning, which corresponds to the modes of interaction between social discourse and practice (VAN LEEUWEN, 1997; THOMPSON, 2009). General results suggest (a) naturalisation and reproduction of the teacher’s speech as hostening to ideological values circulating in society; (b) the emphasis placed on the pupil aggressor, who, although highly criticised, appears to be authorised for his actions. They devest a crystallisation of violence against the teacher, as the indignation involved in the comments was not followed by suggestions for neither practical nor discursive changes against this type of violence. By encouraging reflections on socially disseminated ideological representations about the teaching profession, this research can prove to be a significant support for research in Applied Language, as well as for other areas of social science, leading to progress and systematisation of findings.
