Dilemmas of contemporary moral education

Abstract

The article deals with the situation in Polish education, in which moral education is not provided according to a uniform model, but is provided on a two-pronged basis, in the form of optional religious and ethical activities. In such circumstances, the activities carried out in the context of those subjects constitute a competing offer, although, in essence, they relate to the same programming content. The author distinguishes moral education from moral education on the basis that such education is in principle carried out exclusively in the family home and that the school’s task is only to enrich the ability of the young generation to make moral choices. Therefore, the school cannot be blamed for the moral condition of the pupils, which is shaped by the home environment in the broad sense.
