Abstract
Historically, music is a human construction of the subjectivity and creativity of individuals and, at the same time, a construction of group identity. Music shows anxieties, how to be and want a society, among others. Looking at the letters of musicians is to uncover a universe within a community in a given context. In the present work, students from the third year of medium education have been encouraged to analyse musicians from various musical gêneros, chosen at their own discretion, with the following subjects: racism, xenophobia, homophobia, misogyny and femicide. The aim was to clarify the relationships between the letters of known musicians and how the message reproduced is introjected and normalised by the listeners, and the exclusive or oppressive speech of the listeners is not important. The participants, after the selection process, were able to discuss the concepts of cultural industry, propaganda, mass culture (Frankfurt School) and the trivialisation of loyalty (Hannah Arendt), with a surprising result of students’ interest and widening their critical sense towards the world around them.
