Partindo of the concept, characterisation, interplay and context of the Institutional Repositories (IR), this article discusses the procedures, policies and strategies defined for their implementation in a research environment. This is the Reposcom – Institutional Repository of Intercom – Brazilian Society for Interdisciplinary Communication Studies, which is part of a major project entitled “Federation of Digital Libraries in Communication Sciences” developed by Portcom – Information Network in Communication Sciences of the Portuguese-speaking Countries. The aim of sharing the knowledge obtained is to describe the stages of work, the decisions taken and the results obtained from their implementation and the customisation of the DSpace software, selected to provide the necessary technological support. It concludes by presenting the future breakdowns still to come from this project.Considering the conceptualisation, characterisation and context of the institutional repositories (IR) this paper discussed the procedures, policies and strategies outlined to the implementation of IR in a research environment. The object of discussion is theproject called Reposcom – Institutional Repository of Intercom (Brazilian Society of Interdisciplinary Studies of Communication) – which is part of a broad project managed by the Portcom – Information Network in Communication Sciences of Countries of Portuguese Language – and called Digital Libraries Federation in theCommunication Sciences. Assessing to share the knowledge and experience with the implementation of the Reposcom, this paper describing its work activities, the decisions made, the care of the software DSpace (the technological solution) and the initial results achieved with the project.
