Abstract
‘Fantasía Baertica’ is a piano only composition, written by the Spanish master Manuel de Falla in 1919. This work is of great importance, not only because it is one of the essential works in the repertoire for written piano in Spain, but also because it also represents the reconciliation of two aesthetic currents that could be considered antagonistic per se: nationalism and universalism. This trial deals with the historical and artistic context that led Manuel de Falla to design this musical work, and makes a general analysis of the musical elements that are used in this composition, in particular the influence of the Flemish art tradition. The reasons why, in the opinion of the author of the article, this work has not received the attention it deserves are also considered.
