Parenting blogs as a platform for (auto)presentation of a modern Polish family

Abstract

SCIENTIFIC OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the article is to present the results of an analysis of the parenting blogosphere in terms of ways of presenting the Polish family today. PROBLEM AND TEST METHODS: The research problem was formulated in the form of questions about the characteristics of the Polish parenting blogosphere, the silhouettes of the authors of parent blogs and their motivation to keep electronic journals and the scope of the content presented on them, which provides information on the family. The empirical part mainly uses qualitative methods, netnography and content analysis, as well as a secondary quantitative study of statistics. DEPICTION PROCESS: The first part of the article explains the appropriateness of using selected test methods and presents the selection of the test sample. The specific characteristics of the Polish family were subsequently highlighted. The characteristics of the parent blogs and their authors are presented in turn. Blogger motivations and blog content were also tested. Finally, the most popular models of the Polish family presented by bloggers were identified. RESULTS OF THE SCIENTIFIC ANALYSIS: Studies have shown that family issues are usually taken up by the lens of their own experiences. The blogs analysed do not show family problems in general, but focus on the roles of mothers, fathers or relationships with children. The family is often seen as a collection of individual problems of related individuals. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS: The family seen by bloggers is diverse and depends on many factors (modes, socio-economic situation or culture). Therefore, the proposed analysis opens up a discussion on the changing picture of the family, which seems important in the absence of comprehensive research on parenting blogosphere in Poland.
