Abstract
The aim of the study was the transcultural validation of the Exercise Psychological Needs Questionnaire (BPNES) with Brazilian students. Three translators involved in the translation process, three experts in Sport Psychology and 403 students participated. The tool used was BPNES with 12 items that assessed students’ basic psychological needs (autonomy, competence and relationship). Content validity coefficients, Kappa, Cronbach alpha, intraclasse correlation and confirmatory factorial analysis were used to analyse the data. The results showed that the Portuguese language version contains appropriate questions for clarity of language and practical relevance (CVC >, 81), has internal consistency (α =, 83) and satisfactory teste-retest reliability (R =, 87). The confirmatory factorial analysis provided appropriate adjustment coefficients (X2/gl = 2,10, GFI =, 95, CFI = 0,96, TLI =, 95, RMSE =, 05). It is concluded that the Portuguese language version for Brazilian students of BPNES was valid for assessing motivation constructs (autonomy, competence and relations) in the educational context.
