Abstract
This article describes a pilot study consisting of a 3D modelling workshop as an educational innovation tool for the development of competences covered by the new degrees of Fine Arts. Among them, the European Higher Education Area proposes the competence to choose the right representation system, the use of advanced technological tools and the development of space vision capacity. The study was carried out with graduate students in Fine Arts at the University of La Laguna during the academic year 2010-2011. The software chosen for the workshop was Google SketchUp 8, in its free version. To measure the influence of carrying out the workshop, students completed a workshop satisfaction survey and measured the effect on spatial vision through the Mental Rotation Test (MRT). The results indicate that such initiatives make it possible to improve students’ skills.
