Abstract
Objective. Analyse personal, psychological and occupational or academic variables predicting engagement in workers (teachers and administrative staff) and students of a Peruvian university. Study 1 analyses labour engagement, and Study 2, academic engagement. Method. The study involved 512 workers and 1078 students from a private university in Lima, Peru. All were given SF-36, the emotional and flourishing scales assessing well-being, the UWES-9 work or academic and the MBI Professional Performance Scale for Workers and the Academic Self-Effectiveness for students. Results. The most significant predicting variables of labour commitment were satisfied with work (β = 0.34. < 0.001), professional performance (β = 0.21. < 0.001) and flowering (β = 0.21. < 0.001), and academic engagement, career satisfaction (β = 0.35. < 0.001), flowering (β = 0.33. < 0.001) and academic self-efficacy (β = 0.19. < 0.001). Conclusions. The predicting variables of the commitment were similar in both studies. They highlight satisfaction with work or career, self-efficiency and flourishing, which is the welfare dimension of a meaningful life, characterised by positive and rewarding links.
