Abstract
The public expression of citizens through the media is essential for the exercise of citizenship. Inspired by this approach, this study was carried out on the basis of a project to promote radio reading and writing carried out in Delicias, the rural community of the Táchira State, bordering Colombia. The purpose was to empower members of the community to communicate their environment to the public by writing texts to broadcast through community radio. From the research/action perspective, the promotion was based on textual models, with emphasis on understanding the formal and semantic structure of the texts. Experience showed that offering apprentices procedures to learn how to write as radio producers allowed them to gain skills for public communication through the social use of writing.
