Profile of the French teacher as a foreign language in Costa Rica in the current educational setting due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract

The aim of this work was to determine the profile of the French teacher as a foreign language resulting from the transformations required in the educational context due to the global pandemic caused by COVID-19. To this end, a mixed descriptive study was carried out, specifying the characteristics and properties of the profile of the French teacher. The analysis of these characteristics was carried out using the quantitative and qualitative approach to comprehensively interpret the reality in the current educational scenario. The study was therefore supported by desk analysis, literature review and consultation of teachers linked to the field of teaching French as a foreign language within and outside the country, to identify the competences, skills and skills required to establish a comprehensive, current and international profile. Among the main findings, it was found that French teachers faced challenges in technological and pedagogical areas; changes in the educational field required teachers to master technological tools and resources and to adapt the teaching and learning process to the virtual and remote format. It is concluded that the new teaching profile needs to be comprehensive and fit for international as well as national standards.
