A ausência e o vácuo: Educação Ambiental e a Nova Lei do Ensino Médio brasileiro no século XXI | The absence and the vacuum : Environmental Education in the 21 st Century and the Brazilian New High School Law

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to examine Environmental Education in Brazil’s Middle Education in the 21st century. In the legislative change that took place in 2017, it can be seen that the former curricular components were grouped into areas of knowledge. Ahead of that, we will look at the role that Environmental Education would have in this new environment, in which a sort of absence or weakening of the area is noted. From then on, it was sought to understand the reasons for this, finding a vacuum of public policies in Environmental Education since 2012. The proposal presented here intends to understand this absence and vacuum in a historical analysis of Environmental Education and Brazilian educational legislation in the 21st century. The New Law on Medium Education, the Common National Curricular Base, as well as other documents on Environmental Education, such as the National Environmental Education Policy, the National Environmental Education Programme and national and international agreements, have been used as sources to compare the research. Also, authors from the Environmental Education Area or on Environmental Epistemology were used as a basis for interpretation of the results. The method used was desk research and qualitative analysis, using the environmental field and the public policy field as the research parameter. As a result, it is expected to show the absence of new policies for environmental education in view of the educational challenges for the 21st century.
