Resumen: En el presente artículo abordaremos, desde una perspectiva histórica, la evolución del método de enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras, comenzando brevemente por la Edad Moderna y terminando en los tiempos actuales. Desde la publicación de la primera gramática castellana de Elio Antonio de Nebrija, hasta los materiales multimedia más avanzados de nuestro tiempo, son muchos y muy variados los métodos, recursos y útiles didácticos que se han empleado a lo largo de la historia para enseñar una lengua extranjera. Muchos fueron los pedagogos, humanistas, lingüistas y estudiosos en general que, desde muy temprano, pretendieron enseñar sus lenguas a hablantes no nativos. La lengua, como elemento principal de la comunicación humana, ha sido objeto de reflexión y estudio desde muy antiguo. En las páginas que siguen, abordaremos la evolución histórica de la enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras, refiriéndome en concreto a las lenguas modernas, y haciendo especial referencia a los métodos para la enseñanza del español, desde el Humanismo hasta la actualidad.Summary: This article will address, from a historical perspective, the evolution of the method of teaching foreign languages, starting briefly from the Modern Age and continuing until today. From the publication of the first Spanish grammar by Elio Antonio de Nebrija to the most advanced multimedia materials of our time, there are many and varied methods, and useful teaching resources that have been used throughout history to teach a foreign language. Many were the educators, humanists, linguists and scholars who, since the earliest days, tried to teach their languages to non-native speakers. Language, as the major element of human communication, has been the subject of reflection and study from very old times. In the pages that follow, we will discuss the historical development of foreign language teaching, specifically referring to modern languages, and with particular reference to methods for the teaching of Spanish, from Humanism to the present time.
