Abstract
Sociolinguistics, a field of linguistic studies that seeks to establish the relations between language and society, takes as an object of study the speech community (LABOV, 1972), a group of individuals who share the same values associated with the uses of language. On the other hand, Eckert (2000) proposes the study of the variation centered on community of practice, a group in which individuals, when choosing to belong to this or that community, share repertoires of practices, including linguistic ones. We present the constitution of the village Açuzinho, in the municipality of Lagarto/SE, from the perspective of its residents, in order to contribute to the sociolinguistic studies within the scope of the Falares sergipanos database (FREITAG, 2013), highlighting how the linguistic use of individuals is reflected in the relationships that constitute themselves within these social spaces, with the construction of a social and cultural identity to assist in sociolinguistic studies. In an ethnographic approach, we constitute a historical-cultural framework of the community and the grouping of its residents according to communities of practices.
