The article is divided into two parts: the first outlines the conceptual contributions to the study of gambling as a social and cultural phenomenon, as well as the predominant approaches in the social sciences that explain it; the second part, based on an observation exercise, presents general aspects of megrims: its environment, the behaviour of players, the moments of interaction and the types of bets presented in such an activity.
