Survey of beekeeping flora in municipalities in the micro-region of Catolé do Rocha-PB

Abstract

The study aimed at carrying out a survey of beekeeping flora in municipalities in the micro-region of Catolé do Rocha-PB. The data survey was carried out by applying 55 questionnaires, in which data on the social, ecological and flora aspects were collected with beekeepers in the municipalities of Brejo dos Santos, Catolé do Rocha, Jericó and riacho dos Cavalos-PB. The results showed that the beekeepers interviewed are all male, they are on average half a century old, with 3,6 inhabitants/residence. For the maintenance of beekeeping, 96 % avoid burning and landslides, with 52.7 % of beekeepers reporting that pollination of crops is the main contribution made by bees, ensuring the maintenance of plant ecosystems. For the supply of water to the apiaries 29 % reported that they use well water and weed water. For the Caatinga vegetation strata, 33 families, 78 gêns and 107 species were identified. For botanical families, it was found that out of the total 17 trees were trees, 10 shrubs and 17 herbaceous plants, where Fabaceae had the highest number of species, followed by Anacardiaceae, Euforbiaceae and Rubiaceae, respectively, and whereas all interviewees recognise the existence of the species Allaema (Hyptis suaveolens Salzm R. Braga), Angica (Anadenanthera calubrina Vell. Brenam), Aroeira (Myracrodron urundeuva Fr. All.), White Jityrann, Rox and lemon (Ipomoa bahiensis Willd.), Black Jurema (Mimosa tenuiflora Wild. POIRET), marmalade (Croton sonderianusMüll. ARG.), Mufunbo (Combretum leprosumMart.). Knowledge of the apiculture species of the Caatinga biome and its flowering season ensures sustainable beekeeping. There is a need for studies related to native vegetation strata, since herbaceous crops are responsible for ensuring production in the rainy season and this is the least studied stratum.
