The Free Trade Area of the Americas and the United States’ relations with Latin America in the post-Cold War.

Abstract

This work looks at the change in relations between the United States and Latin America following the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Initiative for the Americas and Open Regionalism reflects very clearly the new attitudes towards economic cooperation and integration between the countries of the American hemisphere; it is precisely with regard to these attitudes that an interesting integration scheme is being formed in the region, the Free Trade Area of the Americas (ALCA), of which an assessment is presented here.
