Intercultural communication policies. A perspective built from URACCAN

Abstract

This trial presents the most salient aspects of the course that led the University of the Autonomous Regions of the Caribbean Coast, Nicaragüense (URACCAN) to build its own Intercultural Communication Policy and Intercultural Communication Strategy in a particular context of articulation, discussion and evaluation of the objectives set out in the 2008-2012 Institutional Strategic Plan, one of which being to advance the internal regulatory process. It is also possible to share the fact that the communication policy is based on the need to show the world our contribution to development with the identity of the region and the nation, and also to help reverse the way in which the relevant topics of the Caribbean Coast were dealt with from racial, stereotypical and discrimination. It is therefore a policy that was born to challenge and replace the historical invisibility of the Caribbean Coast in the representation of the country’s hegemonic media.
