Abstract

Catalina Fernández de Córdoba was the woman of Duke Enrique de Cardona, who died in July 1640 in the initial phase of the Catalan Returns. The Duchess, who had hitherto led the conventional life of an aristocrates, was forced to play a political role, from a possible intermediary between Catalonia and the Corte. to the rebels, together with her children. The article sets out the public performance of the duquess in these dramatic months.
