Abstract
The gender nature imbalance at global level is exacerbating a considerable deterioration of humanity. The immediate economic, political, technological and social challenges argue that the prevailing development model is unsustainable. This scenario is seriously disrupting human prospects. As an alternative to addressing these threats, many localities have been put on the path of sustainable development. However, shortcomings in the integrated approach to development at local level limit an adequate focus on the sustainability of this process. The work we put at the reader’s disposal aims to analyse sustainable development from a multidimensional perspective. The investigation allowed us to conclude with the following results: the multidimensional approach to sustainable development makes this concept of development much more operational, putting economic and social development and the preservation of the biophysical environment as a priority; sustainable development, taking a multidimensional approach, means driving the economy in such a way that production and consumption are based on new behaviour on the part of economic operators, capable of guaranteeing, for present and future generations, a level playing field for the deployment of the potential of all individuals in the community, in compliance with objective laws governing nature, i.e. an approach in which the environmental, economic and social dimensions are integrated.
