Rescue of Etnobotanical knowledge for the treatment of livestock diseases in the district of Leymebamba, Amazon Region

Abstract

Livestock farming in our country is an activity that takes place in almost all regions. Its importance is that it provides work and protection for many peasant families, thus contributing to the family bag. However, there are some limitations in this activity that could be at risk for productivity, such as animal health (the different diseases experienced by livestock). It is also known that Peru has had the benefit of having medicinal plants for all kinds of conditions since ancient times. It was therefore decided to rescue ethnobotanical knowledge for the treatment of diseases in livestock farming. In order to obtain this information, semi-structured surveys were carried out in accordance with the protocol for obtaining ethnobotanical information and socio-economic variables in the Leymebamba district. The results obtained show that women make the most use of medicinal plants, as well as the population in the 21-40 age bracket. In this way, 26 species for medicinal use in livestock were collected and identified, prioritising leaves as a used part of these plants, the way in which they are prepared, the method of oral administration, the place of collection in the wild scrap and the current and present use of this knowledge. A negative conclusion is that knowledge about the use and importance of medicinal herbs is not being passed on at the level of age ranges within the community.
