" Entender como se processa o conhecimento na mente humana é uma das atividades estudadas pela Psicologia Cognitiva. Fazem parte desse campo de discussão as representações e os modelos mentais, os quais têm interessado particularmente à educação, uma vez que situações de ensino e aprendizagem, principalmente nas que ocorrem por meio da resolução de situações-problema, requerem a (des)construção de modelos e representações. Neste sentido, trazemos para discussão como modelos mentais e linguagem se articulam na resolução de problemas matemáticos, a partir de um contexto didático de um curso de Licenciatura Plena em Matemática. Concluímos que a linguagem assume importância crucial devido intermediar as relações entre professor e aluno e entre esses e o conhecimento. No campo da matemática, esses temas são de extrema relevância em face da possibilidade de apontar novos horizontes didáticos para tal disciplina. Palavras-Chave: Linguagem Matemática.
