Inventory of the impacts of recreational activities in protected forest environments: the case of the ancient forest park of Mount Wright

Abstract

With a view to sustainable recreational development, particularly in the case of protected forest environments, it is essential to put in place effective means and management methods to ensure that the ecological integrity of these areas is maintained. Tourism development in these protected areas may be an aspect of economic development to be enhanced, but resources will have to be put in place to manage recreational activities in order to ensure that ecological integrity is maintained. To this end, and in the interests of preserving the natural environment, AFQM, which manages the development and awareness of the old forest park in Mount Wright, has drawn up a study to monitor the ecological integrity of the park. Growing boiling is not without damage to this natural environment. Based on the data collected and the impacts observed in this study, it is possible to make some recommendations that will allow for better management of recreational activities in the park. The purpose of these recommendations is to help reduce impacts in order to maintain the ecological integrity of the site and especially of old-growth forests. The main recommendation is to continue and develop new methods of raising users’ awareness of the fragility of the site, the importance of compliance and zoning, and to maintain a close link with the bodies responsible for the escalation site. . Subsequently, in order to reduce the impact of pedestrian hiking, it is suggested, in addition to raising awareness, to improve the marking and signposting of paths. Maintenance and monitoring of drainage infrastructure is also a key aspect in ensuring efficient drainage and sustainable development of pathways. Finally, in order to manage effectively the two main activities carried out in the park, it is recommended that a plan be drawn up to manage the recreational activities of climbing and walking. These management tools will make it possible to precisely target actions to be implemented in order to reduce the impact on the natural environment and to improve the quality of user reception.
