Abstract
The sudden changes that have taken place within the European socio-political landscape over the last century have led to a different kind of approach on the part of Western societies towards the ‘other’. To speak of multiculturalism, recognising its real importance, means embarking on a much-needed redefinition of the entire cultural system. Obviously not a few difficulties appear within such a wide-ranging project, not only in the understanding and interconnection of different cultures in comparison but in the attempt to build a new language, which deconstructs both that of official medicine and that of alternative practices.
