Abstract
This work analyses the territories in transition that emerge from the process of suburban dispersion, which do not have urban or rural characteristics, but show signs of one or the other depending on the proximity of the two areas. The process of territorial organisation would have moments in its cycle of structuring the city (creation and expansion, consolidation and strengthening, stagnation and retraction) that are more representative of some or other transition morphologies. From the incorporation of the notions of regime and breakdown of Milton Santos, the dynamism and fluctuation resulting in three morphological subtypes of transition can be observed: suburban, suburbanisation and peri-urban.
