Where these data come from
Ludwik de Fleury and early mid-century cemeteries with graves in stone enclosures on Kolneńska

Abstract

In 1892, Louis de Fleury, amateur of archaeological exploration, directed his interests to the cemeteries with graves in the north-eastern stone enclosures. Mazovia. A total of about 20 groves have been excavated on several of them. He forwarded the report to the Cessian Archaeological Committee in St Petersburg. Over the next decades, these cemeteries have been damaged virtually completely. Thus, the results of the work of Mr de Fleury remained the main source of information about these necropoles, that is to say, about the funeral habits of the people living in that border of Poland, the Pruise people and Rusi in the 19th-XII century. In almost 130 years since his excavation, only incomplete and often misleading news about them appeared in archaeological literature. This publication is the first to discuss in detail the results of L. de Fleury’s work and their importance for understanding the settlement processes at Kolneńska in 2 half. 19th century and 1 half 12nd century
