Effects on the employment generation of the Dependency Care System. An estimate for Castile-Leon

Abstract

The main objective of this work is to try to quantify the impact that the effective implementation of the System of Autonomy and Care for Dependency (SAAD) in the Autonomous Community of Castile-Leon may have on job creation in the Autonomous Community of Castile-Leon, which is one of the regions with the greatest incidence of the ageing of the population and in which, as a result, the elderly dependent population is expected to increase significantly over the coming decades. The methodology followed is based on the treatment of the information collected in the Survey on Disability, Deficiencies and Health States for Castile and Leon. The estimate of the potential effects on job creation is obtained on the basis of the hypotheses set out in the Dependencia White Paper, combined with an econometric study of discrete choice (probit) from the Labour Force Survey and the Informal Support Survey for the elderly in Spain. A sensitivity analysis of the job creation variable is also carried out in the face of small variations in some of the parameters used in the study.
