Abstract
The purpose of this text was to present and analyse Law No 10.639/03, which made it compulsory to study the history and culture of Afro-Brazilian and Afro-Brazilian, as well as to recover the contribution of African matrices in Brazil to the formation of national identity, and to reflect on the possibilities for teaching the subject of assistance in the construction of assertive identities. The methodology consisted of literature research, interview with teachers in basic education, and the production, development and analysis of a teaching sequence worked with students from the seventh year of basic education from a public school located in the city of Ituiutaba, Minas Gerais. It has been concluded from experience that, by studying the past and present of Tonfrica from a historical, geographical and cultural perspective, other views on theatrica can be discernible, contributing to the purpose of building a positive identity.
