The codic alternation as a strategy of courtesy and argumentation in Algiers chaine’s nightnight conversations 3

Abstract

This article aims to describe and analyze the phenomenon of code-switching as a communication strategy in an interactive radio program of the phone-in type, entitled Franchise de nuit. This type of program, known in particular in Anglo-Saxon countries, allows listeners to have a telephone conversation with the presenter in the studio to discuss a recent topic. The present study aims at describing and analyzing the functioning and the effect of this phenomenon through the interactional behavior of the interlocutors, which manifests itself both at the level of expressing politeness and argumenting. The approach chosen for the analysis of the linguistic resources mobilized in the interaction is inspired by three main currents : Interactional Sociolinguistics, Linguistic Pragmatics and the Analysis of Speech in Interaction (ADI, ‘ASI’).
