SUMMARY: Annona glabra L., a tropical fruit species belonging to the Annonaceae family, has attracted interest from researchers due to their adaptive capacity to extreme environments and has great potential as a rootstock for species of the same gênero. One of the difficulties reported in the literature in the sexuated spread of that species is the slow germination process, with a marked lack of uniformity. Asexual propagation methods, such as in vitro cultivation, have some limitations, among which the acoustic accumulation of ethylene in the microenvironment formed inside the bottle, causing early foliar absscision in the explants. That work aimed to study two inhibitors of the action of ethylene, silver nitrate and silver thiosulphate in the in vitro cultivation of Annona glabra L. Explantes were obtained from young vegetative branches of 3-year old matrices grown in the nursery of the Plant Biotechnology Laboratory of the Centre for Agricultural Sciences of the Federal University of Alagoas. The experiments were conducted in a fully casualised design, consisting of 4 treatments and 20 repetitions. The culture medium used in the two experiments was MS, supplemented with 30 g L-1 of sucrose and 7 g L-1 of agar. The concentrations tested were: 0; 0,2; 2,0 and 20.0 μmol L -1 of silver nitrate and silver thiosulphate respectively, added to MS. Ethylene inhibitor, silver thiosulphate, was more efficient in reducing early foliar abscision at the in vitro establishment of the test species.
