Abstract
In a context of resistance, in 1948, under the aegis of the colonial regime, several writers have come together to oppose the oppressive context of colonization through the Movement of the New Intellectuals from Angola - the MNIA, whose motto is the cry “Let's discover Angola”. Among these intellectuals was António Jacinto and the defense of the rediscovery of African nationality with an Angolan identity. António Jacinto writes the poem “Punishment by Train Trickster” (1961), presenting in form and content the musicality enhancing the resistance to current historical context. Through rhythm, orality, musicality and figures of speech the poetcaptures the African rhythms by means of intense pauses and the use of Kimbundo, African language merged with the Portuguese. It is important to note that this poem was set to music by Fausto Bordalo Dias in 1974, so that António Jacinto’s verses are constantly revisited by / in memory of the Angolan people.
