Abstract
El This work describes the origin and development of mediation in Mexico, which is currently gaining great strength in Mexico. However, its start from 1997 had some problems, as mediation did not start as a national movement, but was local and only in court. However, in 2008, it became a federal obligation for all states in the country to offer alternative justice mechanisms, including mediation in their respective judicial branches, although each state developed it in its own way, as their respective laws are local and their results at individual level are therefore very diverse. In addition, in recent years, mediation has also developed in other areas, such as school, community and indigenous people in some countries of the country, which has encouraged civic participation, which is one of the main factors in the development of mediation in this type of scenario. The article refers in chronological terms to the development described, using, in addition to doctrine, official statistics and data. It also shows that although mediation in Mexico is gaining strength, it is not doing so uniformly throughout the country, as differences at state level are sometimes very large.
