Abstract
This letter seeks to explore how the notions of culture, art and aesthetics have been built, and how – from the beginning of modernisation – an idea of ‘universal culture’ has been established, which posits and legitimises symbolic, aesthetic and artistic performances, which delegitimise and inference all other forms of local artistic creation and production.
