Pull to Crescer method: a new growth outlook for SMEs

Abstract

Small and medium-sized enterprises are constantly seeking to stay on the market and grow. The “Learning to Crescer” method helps in this search, which is characterised by a methodology that seeks to integrate the strategic planning of the company through the development of participatory projects developed together with the manager in the form of a training and learning process. On this basis, this objective study answered the following enquiry: how to improve the chances of an SME to stay on the market and/or grow? To this end, this study has applied the Aprender a Crescer (AaC) method proposed by North (2012) to support an SME in the consultancy segment. The application of the method started from the choice of the organisation in which the method would be applied. After, the steps suggested by the method were followed: (1) analysing and identifying growth gaps and opportunities; (2) proposing learning projects, aiming to boost suggestions for improvement; (3) exchange of experience and best practice from the experience of applying the method; and finally, 4) Coachs of growth within the analysed organisation. The chosen micro-enterprise is active in the service sector by developing projects in various areas and sectors of information technology and management. Among the results obtained from the application of the Aprender to Crescer method, the company is in the process of maturing and key strategic issues, such as the establishment of long-term resource sources and institutional alliances allowing for greater stability, still need to be aligned in order to achieve sustainable growth.
